Please help - Simple question but can't find the answer

Hi there.

I was lucky enough to be drawn out in DV-2008 and now have an interview next month in Sydney.

I am not ready to go to the US permanently. What can I do?

If I go, do I have to stay for a period or lose my visa?

Can I just validate it by going there and coming back?

I appreciate any answers you have.
