What is the legal USD amount we can carry to India

One of my friends is in USA on B1/B2 visa now. He is planning to carry some USD (dollar bills) back to India . Can any one let me know what is the legal USD amount we carry to India.

You can carry any amount. But you have to disclose it if it is more than $10,000.
