  • Travel on B1/B2 visa

    Hi,
My company intends to send me to the US on a long term assignment.
However, they initially want me to travel on a B1/B2 visa (2-3 months) for business meetings, while they apply for my H1.
    I already have a 10 year B1/B2 visa.
Appreciate your advise on the following:
    1. Would it be appropriate to travel on a B1/B2 visa with a deputation letter from the company?
    2. Is there any other documentation required to support my purpose of visit?
    3. Would it be better to travel on an H1 or L1 instead?
    4. If I am in the US on a B1, can my company file for an H1 or L1 in parallel?
    5. Would my chances of getting an H1 or L1 visa increase if I have already travelled to the US on B1/B2?

    Thanks,
    Rahul

As long as your purpose of travel on B1/B2 is consistent with allowed activities, you can travel on that.

However, it seems that you are actually going to work while on B1/B2 as you are talking about the alternative of H1/L1.

Please note that each visa different purpose.

Therefore, get the appropriate visa and travel on that.
