what kind of visa to apply for.

I am an architecture student in final year doing my thesis. I have got a travel stipend to go to US to attend a conference on Lighting Design. Students who wish to pursue higher studies in lighting design is expected to attend the conference. The conference will also give an oppurtunity to meet the field experts and discuss with them. I am still a student and will have to return to India to complete my course
Is it advisable to apply for the B1 visa?
Is there a chance for me to get rejected?
