telephone call from chennai consulate

Hello everyone,
I had travelled to the US last year for attending a conference. My B1/B2 was valid for six months and expired last october. Last week somebody from the Chennai consulate, where I had applied for B1/B2, called my home and enquired about my trip. They asked whether I went to the US and my visa was used. I find it something strange because I have nt heard about such a practice. Is this a routine practice of the consulate to enquire about the previous trips. Could somebody enlighten me about the same. Any similar experiences? Please share your thoughts.

No one calls from Chennai consulate (or any US consulate) like that.

That must be some fraud phone call. Don't answer anything and hang up.
