  • Question Regarding Citizenship

    Hi,

I came to know that once you become a US citizen, you can't have
agriculture lands in your name in India is that true ? Also is there any way
to come around the situation ? My kids are also Citizens

    Help will be appreciated.

I dont what happens to the land you held before you became citizen. But indian law prohibits purchase of Agricultural land by non-citizens.

How does that affect inheritance/prev ownded lad is a question for a competant CA.

      why?

the question is why do you want to hold on to any agricultural land in another country?

you're an American now, so India is another country for you.

India has strict regulations on owning agricultural land with acts (laws) like "land to the tiller" etc.

even amitabh bachhan got into trouble for such a transaction

why don't you donate your agricultural land to charity or any of your relatives? no, don't sell, donate it.

India needs good people like you.

      take care.
