  • Dual Citizenship Process

    Hello,

I found a partial answer to my question here, but I wanted to get some clarification ahead of my naturalization interview in a month.

For context, I'm currently a French citizen and plan on becoming a dual citizen (which is allowed by both France and the U.S.).

Am I supposed to discuss this with the interviewer? Is there anything specific I should do regarding the test or the oath?

If you have experience with this particular topic, I appreciate your input.

    Thanks!

A lot of people became dual citizens when they get US citizenship. They keep their home country passport and renew it as needed. Nothing to discuss with the interviewer. Some people even became multi-national (3 citizenships). As long as you keep complying with each country laws (tax, citizenship, other obligations) you will not get any problem.

I'm assuming they already know you are a french citizen. They will not mention this in the interview, however during your naturalization ceremony they will ask you to renounce loyalty to any other country but be they will also tell you to be proud of your french heritage. You can still be a french citizen and carry a french passport. US laws prohibit you to vote in other countries though.

      Congratulations on your interview.

        No it doesn't.
