  • Marriage based N400 application - Tax returns

Preparing my application now and plan to file next week just after the 90 days early filing date starts.

They are asking for 3 years of tax returns. I assume the tax return transcripts I downloaded from the IRS site will suffice?

Also, we got married in January 2018 but have only filed 2 joint tax returns together (2019 and 2020). We filed separately for 2018 (for tax purposes). They are asking for 3 years so does that mean they want our single 2018 returns as well?

    Thanks.

Yes, it’s Tex return transcripts from IRS website.
You should bring all three tax returns. Some officers are lenient, while others look at every single detail. As long as it says married filing separately on your 2018 return, they’ll ask no questions.
