Help Me! I am new at this!!

Hi All...I have an Au Pair in my home who is here on a J-1 visa. She would like to convert her visa to an F visa (student) in April. Where can I get information to help her do this? Can she remain in the USA and get it done - or does she need to go home and re-apply? She is looking to stay with us until 4/08 and have it converted when her current visa expires. Any ideas?

First question to ask is: Is her/his visa subject to the J1 2 years home residence requirement?

Most J1 visa holders are REQUIRED, to go home and live there for 2 years before they can return to the US or extend, change, adjust their status to another.

If this is the can, a waiver will have to be filed first, before anything else can be done.
