I am currently on J2 visa. Is it possible to conver to H1 if an employer is will ing to provide H1?

By October 2005 i will be on H4 as my wife will be on H1 from j1(now). If I opt to get F1 (student visa) or H1 am i eligible?...what r the conditions?

If I covert to F1 will if affect my wife to get H1?...pl answer my question
