H4 to H1 transfer

Dear all;

I am on a H4 visa and planning to transfer to H1B. The employer has told me he will only do a regular processing and not a premium processing.

How long will it take to get H1 approved through regular processing?

Also can i start working after i receive the receipt notice?

Will the days on H1 start rolling after receiving the receipt notice or will it start only after getting the approval notice?

Is it fresh H1 or transfer of an old H1 petition ?

No, its a transfer from H4 to H1.I had previously been on H1, lost my job and went on to H4 and now getting back to H1 again with a new employer.

Regular processing takes 2 to 3 months and if there is an RFE it can take some more time.
You cannot begin working until you get approved change of status and after you get that you must begin working.
