H1B and L1B application together

Hello,

I am currently in the process of applying for H1B application and will submit docs in April 2013 to USCIS. My current situation is that I may have to travel to USA prior to Oct 2013 (in next couple of months).

What are the options available?
Can I initiate L1 application with the same employer and travel to US? Once H1B petition gets approved I can switch to H1B.

Please advise.
