Hello all,
I had to recently come to chennai to get my H1B re-stamped. I decided to use the dropbox service in chennai.
I decided against going to canada or any other nearby consulates, because my current visa stamp expired in sept 2012, and my i-979 from my lawyers late in february. The renewal is till 2015. So I was advised that it will be hard to get a visa to canada or other countries with an expired US visa.
I am still not sure if this was the right decision.
Also, I decided to use the dropbox instead of booking an appointment, since the website gave me the option.
When I went in to drop off the documents on monday, the rep at the counter told me that processing would take 4 business days.I have return tickets booked for saturday. I have never had any of my relatives who had applied and get visas need 4 days for a visa stamping. I have got visa stamped twice, and each time it was a 1 or 2 day turnaround (F1 and H1B in 2010).
So my questions,
1. why does dropbox take 5 days?
2. what is the realistic timeline?
3. Should I have used an appointment instead of dropbox even if I qualified for dropbox?
4. Is there a way to request an expedited processing?
Thanks in advance
