Hi,
I have a valid I797 which I did not use as I quit my old job to pursue my education. It is however still valid. Can i use the valid I797 to apply for job in the US. I had already worked in the US for 3 years before I quit and completed my studies outside the US. So I have no other US Visa.
From what I understand, if I were to apply I can apply to get an extension for the period i was outside the country which means I should be able to receive almost 3 years if i chose to go back to my old employer but can I do the same with a totally independent US employer.
