Indian Passport and H4 Visa damaged

Hi,
I am currently in US on a H4 visa. My Indian Passport including the H4 Visa page is damaged due to water. The picture in the visa page is completely blurred and few digits on the last line is also blurred. Besides applying for a new passport is there something that I should do for the visa.

My husband has applied for his visa extension, he should get it through by the end of next month. So whenever we travel to India the next time , its enough to carry the old damaged passport with the visa along with the new passport to the embassy ?
