Status after job lost on H1

Hi all,

I have a H1B visa. I lost my job this week. I don't have a job lined up to apply for a transfer H1B.
How long can I be in the US?

I have still not finished my education. Can I go back to my F1 status in that case?

Hello, Ramasrini.

Can your employer run your payroll for a month or so - you can offer to pay him (the taxes etc.) for running the payroll. If your payroll is not run, it will be difficult to switch to any other visa status as your current status is invalid. You need to be maintaining some status (like H1B) to be able to switch to another visa like F1 or H4 etc.
