H1B application and travel

My university has filed a petition of H1B visa for me. Can I travel to outside of USA before I receive an approval of this petition? By the way, my current visa status is TN with multiple entrance. Thanks.

When do you need to travel? how long has it been since the univ has filed your H-1B? If you give more details some one iwll be able to help you out.
