  • Surname and Given Name Interchanged in Passport

    Hi,

In all my educational records my name appears with initials at the end.
    (say Phillip A B).

Since my passport application (somewhere in 2000) had mentioned name as just "initials expanded as it is in 10th Markscard", my passport the name has appeared as:

    Surname: Phillip Alaska
    First/Given Name: Brenden Gonzales

I didnt bother to care about the matter all these days, until I applied for H1 (with the same given name and surname as in passport).
    And H1 got approved too.

Now, my interview is on Dec 12.
    1) Will there be any problems even if the same has appeared in H1 too?
i.e. even if name in H1 is same as name in passport, eventhough its wrong logically?

You can think that whatever is your name in your passport is your name from now onwards. And consistently use that.

Or, you need to get it changed everywhere, change the passport, get new H1 approval and so on.

as long as you have your intials on all the documents, expanded or abrevated, it doesnt care. This happend with me too, as Immi help said, you better stick to one style from now on.

        Thanks a lot...

        thanks for your answers.

        Just to reconfirm:

So this means I should use the same interchanged version for all purposes: right from DS 156 to SSN,DMV, opening bank accounts etc?
(which eventually means that I will be using my father's name, as my "first name"... Hope its not a problem as long as Its consistent across all records)

You use the name everywhere as it is in the passport and visa.
