Travel VISA & Passport Expiration Conflicts

Hello All,

I must travel to India in May on a paternity leave. The same time, My H1 VISA and Passport expires on July 30.

1) Is it ok for me to apply for a new passport and travel with valid VISA in old passport?
2) Will I be allowed to enter US having just 2 months VISA validity?
3) Can I apply for extension after coming back to US or before leaving to India?

Please clarify. This is very important to me, I am worried that I will not be allowed to see my first baby!
