H1 extension (h1 expired but I 94 still valid)

My current H1 expires sep 21, 2015. My LCA was filed last weekend and still awaiting approval before I can file the h1 extension so there's a good chance my extension will be filed after sep 21, 2015. However when I entered the U.S. this year, the officer at POE gave me till October 1, 2015 so that's the date in my i94. So my question is it okay if I file for an extension a couple of days after sep 21 but before oct 1?

Yes. Your documents to extend your H1B should reach USCIS before your current I-94 expiry date.
