Enquiry about getting dependant visa

Hi,
I'm getting married in the month of August'06 and i would like to bring my wife on a dependant Visa immediately after marriage.

Is it neccessary to have a marriage certificate for applying visa itself(chennai consulate)..Is it possible to apply for a dependant visa now and schedule an appointment date after my marriage, So that i will have a legal marriage certificate by the time i go for interview?

I did search the forum but could not get a concrete answer saying yes or no.

If not it seems like it takes 6 months to get an appointment(chennai consulate). So what is the best possible suggestion you would provide.
