Can I Buy a business on H1b

Hi,

I'm currently working on H1, I'm looking to buy a small retail business in US. I will be partial owner of that business, I will not be working there as H1 rule won't allow me. My partner will be running a day to day operation.
My question is, Can I do that on H1? I can't work there but can show profile on my tax return?

You can be an investor in a H1b visa. But you cannot work in the business. You still have to work for your petitioner
