H1B renewal/extn 12 months after return to India

Hi, I have returned from US to India in July 2015 after my 18 months work on H1B. My H1B visa expired in June 2016. I have stayed in the US for 18 months only. Please advise what needs to be done to renew my H1B since it is now more than 12 months after visa expiry. Should I apply fresh in the lot system or is there a different process to renew?

Since you have unused time on your previous H1, and have had a H1 in the past 6 yrs., another employer can file a cap-exempt H1 for you. You do not need to go through the lottery.
