  • Visa issued against a previous pettion

    Hi,

I got my first H1B/I797 from oct-2014 to aug-2017. My company renewed my petition by Mar-2017 and I got the renewed I797 dated from aug-2017 to aug-2020.

I changed employer around april and the new I797 for transfer from new employer is from apr-2017 to apr-2020. I am now in a vacation to India in Oct-2017. Since my visa has expired in aug-2017, I reapplied for a new H1-Visa. The application process only allowed for dropbox, and I got a new visa issued after submitting documents via dropbox. However the visa has been issued with the renewed petition of my previous employer instead of the latest petition of my current employer. I checked my DS-160 application details and I have indeed only mentioned my new employer petition number in it.

Is my visa okay to travel back? Has anyone had a similar experience? Would appreciate some information regarding this..

    -thanks,
    lk

    update

    Just upating.

I emailed to [email protected] mentioning this. I got a reply on the next day asking to email scanned copies of new and previous I-797 and petition documents for the latest I-797. I emailed them. After 3 days, I emailed asking what the status is for the email-query. I got a reply next day asking to re-submit passport for new visa, along with a printout of the email.

I resubmitted, and got new visa issued with the right employer details in 3 days.

I had to re-schedule my trip by 10 days (about a week for the email exchange and 3 days for the actual visa stamping).

Good things: [email protected]/visa-service-desk immediately assigned a case-number to the email-query. While I didn't have to use it, it felt comfortable that there is number to refer to should there be a need to check on this. The same ds-160 application number's visa status page can be used to track the progress of the visa-correction. It changed back from issued to "administrative processing" and back to "issued".

I am back in US without much ado besides this visa correction.
