  • H1B for Husband and Wife - Conversion from L1 to H1 and L2 to H1

Thank you friends for sharing all your valuable experiences.

    My case:
I got L1 and moved to US in Dec 2013. My wife got L2, got EAD and was working on L2.
I got my H1B petition approved with Consular Processing in 2015. My wife got her own H1B petition approved with Consular Processing in 2015.
My wife changed job and along with H1B petition transfer she changed her status from L2 to H1B in May 2016.
Since my L1 was expiring, from within US I filed for change of status from L1 to H1B in Oct 2016 and got approved.
So our case is that both husband and wife are having their own H1B.

    Planning for Interview:
We are visiting India so have to appear for H1B stamping.
Ofcourse we both have to appear for our own seperate interview so I filled DS 160 accordingly.
In my case I took appointment for both of us at the sametime - 10 AM. I would recommend that you take earliest possible appointment - 8 am etc if you get one.

    At the Consulate:
At the Mumbai Consulate when we were in line, the security lady managing the line for interviews asked us to stay together and when our turn for interview came, she said that you both go at the same window at the same time so we did that.

    Interview:

    Q: Good morning.
    A: Very Good Morning.
Q: Please give me your passport and I797.
A: One by One we both handed over our passports and I797.
    Q: Both H1B...Power couple ...ha
A: yeah.. exchange of light smiles
Q: I will take seperate interviews for both of you, one after another.
    A: Ok
Q: Who will go first ?

Q: How long have you been with Employer ?
    A: answered
