Passport renewal

Dear All:

I have got the H1B visa stamped in April 2006.
My passport is due for expiry in Nov. 2006.
I am planning my travel sometime in the last week of June 2006.

Can i travel to US and apply for renewal of my passport?
Will it be an issue at US airport during immigration as my
validity is less than 6 months.

Please do let me know if any of you have been through this kind of situation.
