L1 to H1 visa and status change

My husband is on L1-visa and I am on L2 visa + EAD. Both of us contains I-94 valid on L1/L2 visa till July 2007. My husband is working for India based company A and I am working for US based company B.

Both my husband and I have got our H1-B visa and Change status approved starting from Oct 2006 through company B. Approved petition is having new I-94 details included along with it.

Questions:
1) Can we stay in US on L1 /L2 status after 1-Oct-2006? Or our status will be changed automatically to H1-B after Oct 2006.

2) Can my husband continue working with his old company A on L1 status after Oct 1? If yes till when? Can he continue till his I-94 is valid on L1 visa?

This is what I found from forums:-
status will be changed to H1 from oct1 2006. If we continue on L1, status will be affected.(may create issue during next VISA stamping)

To continue on L1 , you need to go out of country before oct1, 2006 and get L1 stamped again.
