How can i apply ITIN for my wife

Hi,

I got married in Jan 2007. My wife came to USA in Feb 2007 on H4 visa.
How and when can i apply ITIN for my wife?
Am i allowed to apply 2006 tax returns as a married person?

You need to fill out the form W-7 (look on IRS website) and mail it along with the fed tax returns, W2 and a notarized copy of your wife's passport. You will receive the ITIN number in 4-6 weeks. About the second query, I think you should talk to a CPA.

if you were not married in 2006 then i dont believe you can/should file as a married person.

Until now i didn't filed for tax returns... How can i mail fed tax returns? Do i need to wait until i get tax returns or can i apply now with some other documents?
