Currently on L1 and H1 got approved

Currently i am on L1 visa in US and i am on India payroll and i get paid by my India office and also i get perdiem allowances in US.

My company has applied for my H1 and it got approved which means i can work on H1 from October 2007.

If i get transferred to H1 then i cannot be on India Payroll and i have to be on US payroll.

My question is if my US employer dosent convert me to US payroll then what would be my status. What is the status of my L1 visa.
Please help as i would like to take some decisions based on your reply.

If you are working in H1, you have to be in US payroll. You can not be in India pay roll and work in the US. It does not make any sense.
