H1B extenstion & I94 Status

Hello,

My H1B visa would expire on 30 Sept and my I-94 too.
My employer has applied for H1B extension and I was told it would take about 3 months.
My H1B visa and I-94 status both would be expired by then.

I know the visa can be extended anytime if I am not leaving the country. But do I have to get my I-94 status extended. If yes, could you please let me know the process.

Any past experience please share.
