H4 stamping with spouse's expired H1 stamping

I would appreciate a lot any help in this matter.

My wife is in India for a 4 weeks vacation and she is applying for her H4 stamping at Channai. My H1B stamping in the passport expired more than an year ago. But I have all other required documents which are valid and current (like I-797, latest Pay stubs, letter from the employer etc). My H1 stamping in the passport expired only because I did not revalidate it when I changed employers.

Do I need to have an unexpired H1B stamping in my passport in order for my wife to get an H4 stamping?

No

No. As long as your I797 is valid, she will not have any problem getting H4 visa. Send all the documents to your wife and nowadays they unnecessarily delay the process if some documents are missing.
