  • Options/Grace Period for H1B Laid off Employees

    Hi,
One of my friend is working for a reputed IT company, which is in the process of laying off people.
He is currently on H1B and it's valid till May 2010.
H1B visa is stamped till May 2010.
If he gets laid off today, how long can he wait before applying for H1B transfer?
What are the other options available with him??
    Thanks,
    Kumar

There in no grace period after lay off. Best thing to do is transfer H1 before lay off or appy for a Change of Status to visitor (B2). The latter option buys time if your friend does not have an employer before lay off.
    Check out H1 FAQs first!
