URGENT! How long is the H1 valid after you loose your job?

I just lost my job about an hour ago and my last day in the company is till friday. How long does one have after you loose your job to transfer the H1 or haw many days is the H1 valid?
Please do reply with any suggestions you might have.

Well , officially you are out of status the day you stop working.But , the INS only checks your pay stubs as a proof of employment.
I got laid off last year and my company was paying 2 months salary as severance.I asked them to give me the severance as 2 months salary postdated which they did.I found a new job within those 2 months, got my H-1 transferred and even got the new H-1 stamped without any issues.

So make sure the company keeps u on payroll and gives u unpaid vacation or just pays you severance postdated.Good luck !!!!
