  • H1B - Difference between Place of Residence and Place of Interview

    Hi ,

I had applied for H1B this year and have been selected in the Lottery.

I have a clarification regarding the Place of interview.

My employer chose to apply from Mumbai although my Place of Residence is
    Chennai.
He asked for a temporary Mumbai address from me and has applied.
My employer told me that i can say that my project is closed in Chennai and will be residing in Mumbai.

will i have any problems because my place of residence and place of interview are different ??

    Thanks in advance

You are risking it as you could be denied or redirected back to Chennai. Don't try to fool around the system. Irrespective of what is mentioned on the I797, you should go to the consulate which belongs to the area of your domicile.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

You'll be redirected/denied. They know this trick now.

Why would you work for an employer who askes that you lie in a US visa interview? Fraud has serious consequences and can have a permanent bar to any type of US visa.
