Is it mandatory /advisable to take minor kids[aged under 7yrs] for h1/h4 interview?

---- Of course they should have a H4 Visa to travel to the US and thus it is important that an appointment is taken for their H4 interview for them at the same US Consulate as your H1

is it mandatory to take minor kids along for an interview to obtain h4 for them
or simply carrying their passports will suffice.
I guess still for biometric finger printing they need to accompany me?
