New H1 approved, want to quit the current job

I work at a university (cap-exempt) on H1 visa and applied for a cap-subject H1 thru a consultant, which was recently approved. the start date of this new H1 is from Oct 1st, 2008. I hate my current university job very much and would like quit it right now. I know that ideally I cannot quit it until the new H1 kicks in, which is Oct 1st. But if I want to or have to quit the current job, when is the earliest that I can quit it? Sept 15th, which will be 2 weeks before Oct 1st or is it safe to quit it right now?

You cannot quit until Oct 1st which is when your new H1b kicks in. Otherwise your EOS is void as it was approved on the basis that you continuously held the H1b status.
