How long I can stay in US with H1B?

Hi,

I have a query regarding stay in US with H1B.

How long I can stay in US with H1B? Is it 6 years of stay in US or 6 years (3 +3)valid period of I-797? In first 3 years term I stayed only 4 months in US and now I am in second 3 years term and have been working in US since March 2008.

It is a total of 6 years. There is no first term or second term. The sum is 6 years and can be extended until you hit 6 years total without the green card process or longer with it.
