Help needed regarding H1

Hi

I came to US on H4 and my H1 got approved for oct 08.My H4 was also approved until 2010.I have the following queries:

1. Can i still be on H4 without applying for ssn.

2.How will i Know if my H4 gets cancelled if the employer doesnt inform me.

3.How will i know if my H1 gets cancelled if the employer doesnt inform me.

My H4 and H1 are from different employers.

Was the approval a COS? Did the approval come with an attached I-94?

2. You need to know based on the H1b approval and how it was applied. Good employers care.

3. You chose a bad employer. Let me guess, you paid for the H1b?

You have to begin working from Oct 1st and getting paid then.

Will my H4 be cancelled automatically or should we have to cancel it .
How will i know if it cancelled?
how will i know incase my H1 gets cancelled.I paid for H1b.

Visa, petition and status are different things. the status is what that matters after you enter US. Visa and petition are not related as far as cancellation goes.

If you can clearly say what you are trying to do/understand in your combinations, I may be able to help. Otherwise, it is not possible.

The visas remain valid irrespective of what status you hold in the US. To enter on a visa, you need to be eligible to hold that particular status.
