L1 to H1 transfer

Hi Guys,

Am working on L1 in ABC company and unfortunately my company asked me to return back in Jan 2009 (I have my L1 valid till 2010), can you please tell me what are the best chances/ways to avoid this situations?

1) Can I apply another company here with valid L1 of company ABC? If I get any job here can I stay till they file my H1?
2) Is there any period to change the status from L1 to H1 or it can be done anytime?
