H1 - H4

Currently I am on H1b visa. But due to the bad market condition I am out of project right now. I want to go back to H4 visa which I had initially when i came to US.

I want to know what forms i need to fill in for it and what is the process.

---- Use for I-539 (browse throught the USCIS website for forms and download)

Can I apply for it independently or do I need to proceed through a lawyer or some such thing??

---- Yes, you can apply independently, provided you are confident of all the information, else you may have to proceed through an attorney.

---- It appears that you need to act quickly as you may be out of status in which you have to start seeking legal help
