Hi all,
My wife is currently in India and has a passport with her original name. Before that she was in USA on F1-OPT and has an SSN, drivers license and bank accounts. I am on H1B (awaiting PERM priority date to become current).
I am thinking of this way to effect the name change. I would really appreciate if someone can point out anything wrong or has any comments or suggestions.
1. Change name in passport in India.
2. Apply for H4 with new name.
3. Come to USA
4. Apply for name change in court (Is this required because we already have a valid marriage certificate?).
5. Apply for name change in SSN (Will this be possible because she is on H4? I know that a SSN record cannot ever be cancelled).
6. Apply for a name change in existing driver's license (is the SSN name change required for this?)
7. Apply for name change in bank accounts.
8. Apply for a new driver's license in the state where we will be living. (Since this will use the new passport/name changed SSN card, this will have the new name!.
