H1B extension

My H1 expired in Oct 2008 and I applied for extension in Aug 2008.
We have only received the H1B receipt notice till now. How long do I need to wait before I am required to move on to a different status.

Are you currently in status and getting paid? Read about bridging on the forum or from the Yates memo.
