  • Visa Stamping - Surname blank in passport

    Hi,

I am in US with H1 Visa. Recently I got engaged and after marriage i am planning to bring my wife to US. She is in India. In her passport, both her first name and last name is in Given Name and Surname is blank. Does she need to change the Given name and surname details in passport before going to Visa interview? I would appreciate someone can help in this matter.

    Regards
    Nilesh

of course, yes. If passport doesn't have correct details, you need to get it corrected before using it for any purpose.

As per lawyer, the consulate may consider last name from the Given name(s) if you mention that last name in the DS-156 and 157. But the best way is to add husband's last name in her passport. I had the same issue with my wife's passport, I did add my last name to her passport and then applied for the visa.
      Regards,
      Harry
