I came to USA on H4 as my husband has H1B. I changed my status to F1 and finished my masters from university in USA. Now I have applied for H1B visa and it is approved which should be effictive from Oct09 with a consultant. My husband's employer has filed for his GC application on EB2 category which has I140 approved so far. If I do not get job by Oct09 what will happen, can I keep searching job for any period of time with my H1 approval or I have to change my status? I do not want to create any effect on our GC procoess.

If your H1b was approved as a COS (change of status), your status changes automattically to H1b from Oct 1st. You need to be working and getting paid from day one to be properly maintaining the H1b status.
If not, you will be jeopardizing the GC case of yours as these will be scrutinized closely.
