Hi all,
Can I take an appointment for H4 visa interview for my fiancee before we are married.(Of course I will take the appointment for interview only after we are married) I mean it takes around 1 month to get the date so was planning to take it early. If YES what should I file in martial status "Single/Married"

You cannot mark it as married before you actually get married. You will need the marriage registration certificate to get H4. Either you have to postpone your visa interview to get it done after your marriage or get the H4 stamped for your wife later.

If I understand you correctly, I assume that you were unable to find a date for the visa interview after 21st October and the next available date is only after a month from Oct 21st? If that is the case and if you are a returning H1b worker, then you can request for expedited visa interview. Send an email to "Chennai, NIV" <[email protected]>. Below is a template that you can use.

You can fill the form as married as on the date of interview, you will be married. If it prefills a date, let the person correct the date with a pen and sign it.

Hello vikram, I am also having the same question, as far as i know we can change the details in DS 156, five working days prior to interview..(so always can change the status to married)...let me know if you have any other information..Are you planning to go together for interview and is this fresh H1b and H4 or renewal???

You can book the appointment as married than go back and change. It does not matter. Make sure that the date and sign are done after the marriage.
