No job on H1B VISA

Hello,

I am working here on H1B. Due to current market situation I lost my job recently. My I-94 validity is till Oct. 2011.
Can I stay in US for some time (say 2-3 months say till Dec so my son can complete school semster) or have to leave immediately?
If I stay till Dec. What will be the consequences?
