Part time job while doing a full time job on H1-b

Hi,

I was wondering if I can do a 2nd job in my free time(weekends and evenings) while doing my full time job during weekdays. I'm on H1-B visa and I'm not sure what kind of contract I've agreed to when I joined my company. I was thinking of freelance website development work etc. as a part time job apart from my main job. Does H1-B rules allow me to do such a job?

You cannot do freelance while you are in H1B. You can work only for the employer who has filed an H1B petition on your behalf and got it approved. However, another employer can file a part time H1B on your behalf. If that gets approved, then you can work part time for the new employer. You just need to make sure that you don't get paid less than the LCA.

The H1b also has to be filed as a concurrent H1b.
