  • H4 work / transfer to H1-B

I am in the US on an H-4 visa (my husband has an H1-B). I have done volunteer work (unpaid internship) on the H-4 - is this allowed? Now I am looking into some paid work, and would like to know whether I'd be able to get an H1-B for it. I am a qualified scientist (PhD), and the work is either producing or hosting a radio or internet broadcast show about kids' health. Since my qualification is not in journalism, but rather in a related area (science / health)... would I be likely to be given an H1-B for that line of work? The internship I did was in radio production (science show). Prior to the H-4, I had a J-1 visa and was working as a scientist.

Thanks very much for your help.

Upaid volunteer work is allowed on H4.

    You may get H1.
