Reguest about h4 SSN

I got H1 last year. Due to market conditions I changed my status to H4. Now this year I started searching jobs. Now in interviws they are asking SSN.But I have not applied for SSN when I was on H1. Is there any way to get SSN now
with out changing to H1. Please help me.

No.

They are not just asking for SSN, they are asking for legal authorization to work in the US. That means, they are unwilling to sponsor H1. They need someone who is US citizen, green card holder or have at least EAD.
