H1 Extension acknowledgement receipt

I'll be filing my extension by this week end and i need to fly back to india by 13 Mar as the assignment will end by then.

1. How much time it'll take to get the acknowlegement receipt?
2. Do i need to be here in US till i get the acknowledgement receipt?
3. Why do i need to be here till i get the acknowledgement receipt?

If you leave the country when the extension is in progress, then the extension of stay might get denied. The petition might get approved without a new I-94. In which case, you need to get the visa stamped to re-enter (In case you don't have a valid visa in the passport).

1. How much time it'll take to get the acknowlegement receipt?
>>> Most people get it within a week. Max 2 weeks.

2. Do i need to be here in US till i get the acknowledgement receipt?
